The AIRLIGHT ENERGY Moroccan construction site runs at top speed: employed 50 people

11.12.2012

Works in Ait-Baha on the three CSP collectors of AIRLIGHT ENERGY go on. All the molds for the production of the concrete elements are operative. The goal is to produce one collector component per day and therefore to finish the concrete modules of one single collector in thirteen days. At the same time, labors focus also on storage, on civil works for the collectors’ foundation and on support activities, such as the concrete plant, the framework manufacturing, the quality lab and the administration. There are currently 50 people working on the construction site, of which 40 are local employees.

AIRLIGHT ENERGY, as part of the consortium with CIMAR (Italcementi Group), ItalgenEner (Italcementi Group), University Ibn Zohr of Agadir (UIZ), Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETHZ), was awarded for the applied research programs that IRESEN (Institut de recherche en énergies solaires et en energies nouvelles) presented in the framework of the InnoTherm competitions (I and II). The commencement, where also the Ministers of energy and of higher education and research of the Kingdom of Morocco, Fouad Douiri e Lahcen Daoudi participated, as well as the ambassadors of Switzerland and Germany, took place on the 30th October in Rabat. The InnoTherm competitions (I and II) have been announced in February 2012 with the aim to support applied research and development projects in the field of renewable energy. Both competitions are part of the energy development strategy of Morocco. The kingdom of Morocco wants to become the standard-bearer of green energy production in North Africa. Among the 72 participants from Universities and Moroccan and foreign industrial and research centers, 8 projects have been selected, including the consortium in which AIRLIGHT ENERGY is involved. The project was awarded with 4.5 million MAD (around 500'000 Swiss francs) and resumes the construction of the CSP plant that AIRLIGHT ENERGY is building in Ait-baha that will provide energy to the cement plant of the Italcementi Group.

AIRLIGHT ENERGY CSP receiver: above 600 C

22.10.2012

22.10.2012

AIRLIGHT ENERGY successfully tested its latest CSP receiver design which was able to efficiently heat air from ambient temperature to well above 600 °C, a result which is unprecedented on a linear concentrator configuration. More relevantly, such performance was obtained with a design which uses only conventional materials and does not require any high-tech components like selective coatings or vacuum insulation. This achievement fortifies the commitment of AIRLIGHT ENERGY to offer a cost-competitive CSP solution able to deliver heat at temperatures significantly above the current 400-450 °C of conventional systems and, therefore, to attain higher solar-to-electricity conversion efficiencies. Furthermore, air as the thermal fluid offers many interesting opportunities for industrial process heat applications due to the ease of integration in existing heating systems.
