The concept of full sustainability

Since its inception, Airlight Energy´s vision has been to create not only a renewable technology, but a sustainable clean energy technology in its broadest concept. Airlight Energys' CSP and CPV turn-key solutions are the answer to that vision, solving all such multiple issues that need to be addressed for a true sustainable growth.

Airlight Energy CSP and CPV systems are efficient in energy production and cost competitive with respect to traditional fossil-fuel technologies. Both are modular and easily scalable to the size required for massive deployment.

The sun is available and easily accessible from almost everywhere. Plants can be installed nearby where the energy is needed. Transportation distances are reduced, grids connections can be used at best while typical problems of fossil-fuels systems such as tensions and conflicts in regions rich of resources, transoceanic transportation risks as well as complex and dangerous extraction methods can be avoided.

Thanks to its unique storage system, Airlight Energy solution provides a full market and demand oriented production from 24h continuous operation to peak power dispatching. This is a sine qua non condition for a clean technology to become a serious contender to fossil-fuel energy resources.

To minimize grey energy content, Airlight Energy solution employs locally abundant materials such as sand and stones. All critical components are easy to transport therefore providing a simple logistic. The whole system is built using non-toxic and non-polluting materials. Finally, there is no extended use of scarce resources such as rare metals.

Particular attention is put on water, the most precious resource in arid regions. Airlight Energy's solution, not only minimize the use of water by employing a fully automatic mirror washing mechanism that can recycle most of the water. In fact, thanks to the extended water collection capability of its mirror field, a positive water balance can be produced in most world regions.

Plants requiring extended surfaces, especially when built nearby populated areas, shall combine smart land utilization with a smooth integration in the landscape. Light foundations, no use of hazardous or polluting material in the whole solar field, easy access to the shadowed area underneath the large collectors, water collection capability and carefully studied architectural design; all these features of Airlight Energy solution contribute to a better use of land, providing possibilities for combined agricultural technologies to reduce land usage as well as smoother integration into rural or urban environment.

Long useful life, simple and clean construction, operation and dismantling. These are other concepts too often overlooked when speaking about clean, renewable technologies. With 60 years operational lifetime, simple construction typical of pre-cast concrete engineering works, reduced maintenance requirements as well as easy dismantling with no concern about polluting or non-fully recyclable materials, Airlight Energy solution design addresses the ecological aspect at 360 degrees.

Providing short and long term positive impact on local economies is also a fundamental requirement for a sustainable technology. During construction up to 50% of the value of the project is generated at the local level. In operation the system may transform desert areas into green lands: Airlight Energy plants are designed to foster local economies and employment.
